Seals
If fluid is bypassing the seals, then a new sealing kit should do it, as long as there is no damage to the bore of the cylinder. Just be aware, there are two kits avalable, GRK3004 and GRK3007, 85 being the approx change point. Both are fairly inexpensive and should cure your problem

Clutch primary seal?
Does your clutch slip at all? If oil is coming out where you say it is (and to be honest it doesnt sound like much) then it may be the primary oil seal that goes round the end of the driveshaft. Its not a hugely difficult thing to replace, just very long winded because you have to remove the clutch assembly. Personally, Id only worry about this if the clutch starts to slip a lot because it is such a pain the replace. My engine looses about 2 lt a month just standing in the garage from the gear lever seal. I dont use the car much, so I dont worry.

seals
Hi Alex, sounds like the seals on the slave or on the master cylinder are worn and letting in air. You could also have the bleed nipple too slack for bleeding, air may get past the threads, though this is not so likely. Good luck

I have fixed a new boot lid seal to the lid (older style), now the rubber is so stiff that I have to use greatest force to close the lid. What can I do?

Selector shaft oil seal
Hi All, I need to replace the selector shaft oil seal on my 82 1275 clubman. I would like to purchase a new one before removing the old one because I need to use the car. Can anyone tell me what the sizes are of this seal? Thanks in advance

Rear boot not sealing well
Hi, I have a 1975 Austin Mini. All sealing rubber is ok but I have a problem with the rear boot sealing rubber. It seams fitted well but when I close the rear boot it does not offer some resistance to make a sealed fit but just touches on the sealing rubber. Does the rear boot take an adjustment to prevent water from entering in the boot, as I think replacing the rubber will end up in the same situation. Thanks for your help Ray

Blue Smoke - Valve Seals?
Hi, Small problem with my 1275 at the moment, whenever I start up from cold (i.e. over night) I get a huge cloud of blue smoke out the back. But the car starts and runs just fine, no problems. It is using a slightly excessive amount of oil though. Everyone is telling me that this is probably the valve seals going on the car. Is this right? If so how easy are they too change, should I find a garage? Also, I was planning on getting the car set up on a rolling road soon, I presume this means I should wait till this is fixed? Thanks

Blue Smoke - Valve Seals
I dont think its possible to change the seals without removing the head. You then release the valve springs and bobs your uncle. While the heads off, it will be worthwhile checking the valve guides, and replacing those if necessary. Its probably worth doing a compression test first, as that will give you an indication of bore wear. No point overhauling the top end if the bottom ends gone as well!

head off Im afraid. Remember, the seals only go on the inlet valves so make sure they go on the right ones. The exhaust ones get hot and would melt the seals.

Valve Seals
Depending on your mechanical abiltiy and equipment it is possible to change the valve seals on an A series without taking the head off as i have done it myself. By placing the cylinder at top dead centre (the very top of its stroke) you can use compressed air (from a compressor) to keep the valves up. It is then a case of removing the valve springs and changing the seal. Double valve springs is good fun! Bear in mind if the valve drops or you cant get the collets back in you will have to take the head off! Bit of a gamble but it has worked a few times for moi...

Re-fitting Door Seals
Silly Question, but can anyone confirm that the join in the door seal rubbers should be positioned at the top of the door opening or at the bottom on the sill? Ive simply replaced as was on my 1990 Cooper but am still getting wet carpet behind front seats when mini is left standing in rain. Im wondering if the join should be at the top? Ian

Door Seal
Good afternoon, The join should be at the bottom. If this is the case and you havew wet carpets, its going to be a long labourious task of elimination. Have fun

If you take the spark plug out and feed along bit of string in,then turn the motor over by hand it will stop the valves dropping in .

Gear selector oil seal
I am about to replace mine.Is there an easy way of doing this. What is the best gear to select.Which way does the pin come out.I dont have a ramp and will be using a jack and axle stands.Cheers.

The pin is a roll-pin, so it should go in and out either way. You need to use a thin piece of steel (a small drill bit should do it) slightly smaller in diameter than the pin to drift it out. Thats the theory. In reality it can be a pain, and you may well end up destroying the pin, so make sure you have a spare. Make sure the car is supported high enough and securely enough to work underneath - I always use axle stands AND a trolley jack - you really dont want a mini engine sitting on your face!
