Wiring
The Colour of the wires on the Flasher Relay are Green 12v Supply or + and Green with a tracer colour going to the switch. The indicator relay is normally mounted on the right side of the bulkhead.

Check the plugs first - they may just need cleaning. Then check the whole ignition system, starting with the distributor cap, then rotor arm, points, leads.

Spark Plugs
What type of spark plugs, should I purchase for a 99 Cooper S, with the uprated 90hp head?

Black Shiny deposit on spark plugs
I noticed that my spark plugs burn black when I let it idle and it is at normal operating temperature. Lots of blue smoke when it sits after a run and start up again. Could this be the valve guides?

Black shiny deposits usually means burnt oil, and if it's smoky only after it's been sitting, then it's almost certainly oil running down the valve guides. This could just be down to worn or deteriorated seals on the valve stems, but since you have to take the head off to get at them anyway, you might as well get the guides done while you're at it.

Spark plugs
Hi there new to the fourm and just bought a 1999 Rover mini what tourqe weight do I tighten them to?
Posted: Jul 25, 2018 10:44 PM
NGK website says 20-30Nm for a taper-seat spark plug (which I think all modern plugs are).
Personally, I just tighten them so they're 'snug'. You definitely don't want to overtighten them and risk stripping the thread in the cylinder head.

Spark plugs and electronic ignition
Hi All,
I'm hoping you can give me some advice. (Admin if this is the wrong place, please feel free to punt it to where ever is best).
I've got a stock, 83 Mini City E that's been sat in my garage for years. I've finally started sorting it out and recently changed to electronic ignition. The engine still wasn't running as well as I'd hoped so I began trying to diagnose the issue by swapping plugs etc. Long story short, I pulled the head off last weekend to change head gasket and noticed that I've now got mixed plugs. I have NGK BPR5ES and NGK BP6E plugs (full set of each), which ones are the best to run in a 998 with electronic ignition?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Jon

I don't think there's much difference between those plugs, and they certainly wouldn't cause you any misfiring or anything like that.
It's more likely to be that the timing is out, or the vacuum advance isn't working correctly. The vacuum advance is extremely important, and a lot of people ignore it.

Cheers Tim, I'll make sure I keep an eye on the vacuum lines.

My Haynes manual says Cooper models should use Champion N5, Cooper S models should use Champion N9Y

Thank you.
I could not find Champion N5. Do you know which ones to replace?

1996 Rover Mini Cooper SPi - NGK Spark Plug Colour?
Hello - I would appreciate help with the following: I fitted a new set of NGK BPR6ES Spark Plugs with 0.6mm gap last year and I checked them today, however they seem to be burning too hot to me - see the attached photo or are these OK for my Mini and is this the correct gap? The car idles fine and goes really well and is quick from 0 to 100kph, therefore if it is a lean issue, I would have assumed the mid to top end performance would be flat? Cheers

Yes, those look to be running a bit hot. They're the right plugs, but the gap should be .8 to .9 mm, though I doubt that would make much difference. I know nothing about Spi or Mpi but I assume there's no adjustment.
