Flip front hinges
Due to severe rust in both wings I have decided that as they need to be cut out anyway I would like to fit a steel flip front. However I have had a hard time finding any hints as to what sort of hinges one should use for such a front. Does anyone have any expirience / suggestions? Thanks in advance

Not so much hinges, but I saw some great catches on a Dutch Clubby Estate at MITP, Silverstone 2004. The driver had an internal release on both passenger & driver side tucked up neatly under the dash rail. It was such a lovely fit between the wings and the Apanels you didnt actually notice it had a flip front. Very smart. If the image detail doesnt come out well, heres the urls. http://www.muchos.co.uk/members/rabiedmushroom/MITP2004 014 reduced.jpg http://www.muchos.co.uk/members/rabiedmushroom/MITP2004 019 reduced.jpg http://www.muchos.co.uk/members/rabiedmushroom/MITP2004 018 reduced.jpg

Flip front hinges - fitting?
I have received a pair of hinges from MiniSpeed as I recently completed welding the panels together and fitted the brace bars as supplied by our kind hosts. However could some one that has done this before tell me where exactly the hinges fit to both on the front panel and on the subframe? Thanks in advance

door hinge panel
hopefully somebody out there can help me. the panel that Harry's driver side door is attached to is very poorly, there are rust holes that you can see the through to the tyre when the door is opened. the mot is due next month and i wondered if this would cause Harry to fail. if that is the case, how much would it cost to fix? thanks to anyone who repies Bob

door hinge removal-rust!!!!
Hi guys,
can anyone give me some hints as to how to remove those rusted blobs that used to be the door hinge retaining nuts as they are totally now unrecognisable as nuts that any socket or spanner can be used on!
I need to remove the door to rustproof effectivley....hopfully before the doors fall off of their own accord!....

Hi,
depends if you are replacing the hinges or not, well lets face it you will probably have to, i would just use a belt sander and grind the studs away, a bit brutal, but works everytime,
There may be some form of device that removes rounded nuts, im sure someone knows of one.
Cheers
Nick

Yep, its called an angle grinder.

If you can get an angle grinder into the space to get to the upper hinge, I'd like to see it!
if not usefull hints will be welcome...........

The space to get to the top nut is barely big enough to get a spanner into let alone a angle grinder, i would use a finger sander but being very carefull, other than that i cannot think of any other ways,

Good morning,
Many, many years ago, I had the same problem with the door hinges and had to sacrafice the A-Panel by cutting holes in it.
This gave me sufficient leverage to get the nuts off and as the A-Panel was on its last leg, i figured I would replace it.
It's an idea if all else fails.

Door Hinges
Does anyone know if the newer style doors can be converted to the older style with external hinges? Or if the external hinges can be bought anywhere?
Also, i've seen a few Coopers (mainly those from The Italian Job) with belts over the bonnet. Why is this? Has it got something to do with the way the bonnet closes?

I doubt you can convert a Mk 3 door to external hinges without a lot of work.
The external hinges are listed in the shop here, try part number 14A6819, etc.
The bonnet straps are fitted for that 'sporty' look - I believe the Motor Sports rules say all cars have to have a secondary bonnet locking device of some sort if you're taking part in competitions.

external hinges
The catalog indicates that each external hinge is different. How are they different? I'm trying to put back my hinges after removal and painting but am having problems. Maybe I have wrong hinge in wrong place.

External hinges
The top and bottom hinges are different - the top one is angled slightly more than the bottom one to allow for the curvature of the door skin.
Plus of course they are different from left hand side to right hand side. Good design, eh?!

Can i weld new studs onto door hinges?
I've recently discovered the mk3 concealed door hinges are the silliest design ever and get all the road grit, salt you name it. So rather than pay out 100 quid for new ones when the studs broke off i drilled them out and welded new studs in. Has anyone tried this before and will they be strong enough like that or am i asking for trouble?

I think it all depends on how good your welding is!
Have you had to repair both hinges? And both studs?
Remember, all the tension is in the top hinge, so if you can put your repaired one at the bottom.
