Tracking Or Camber
Yes, sounds like tracking and or camber problem, sounds like it needs sorting pretty quickly. May be worth checking/replacing Bent tie rod arms before you get this done

Tracking
Good Morning, I have a liitle issue regarding the tracking constantly mis-aligning on my Mini - It is an X plate Cooper fitted with sportspack and 13" Wheels. Within 14 days of having the tracking aligned, it will mis-align and make it a bit fun and scary to drive in the wet !!! Makes the ride very interesting ! I have taken it to the local Mini Specialist who has advised that there does not seem to be a fault with any track rod ends of stering column etc. If anyone can shed light on the possible cause or is suffering the same problem, please advise. Thanks

I aint had a 4 wheel alignment check but I might as well give it a try and thanks for the advise.

tracking
Hi chris, has anyone lifted the carpet and checked the tightness of the nuts that keep the steering rack retaining U clamps tight, if loose believe it or not the steering rack body will move a little before the rack internals start to move the wheels.. worth a check. Dave

Drifting on the track
What you can also try is the Scandinavian flick. Basically its a rally method of handbrake turn without using the handbrake for situations where the road is too narrow or there is just too much going on to use the handbrake. It works very well with Minis because you can floor it out of the turn and the back end just drags itself straight. Its very similar to the above but say you want to turn right, youd start off on the left hand side of the track. First you have to change to right hand side, then quickly back to the left at which point you let off and sharply turn right catching the slide using opposite lock and throttle. If ever you take part in a road rally, its a very good technique for sharp turns and hairpins. You also see this technique in various forms of motorsport to different degrees where a car will approach a corner seemingly on the wrong side for the apex and then at the last minute dip out wide and snap it back to force the car to loose stability. Its not a fast way round a corner, but then you dont use it on fast corners. Its for those corners where you know the back end is going to break away so its better to force it to go and control it rather than have it suddenly go when youre not ready. Remember - in rallying, sideways is safe :-)

Grass track
If youre doing autograss, then youll probably need a 4 core rad. They cool as well as the high performance 2 core but are much stronger. The constant high revs puts a big strain on the heating so its worth fitting early on before you end up damaging the engine.

Track Day coming up & i've got a misfire!
Castle Combe is coming ever closer and my baby has developed a misfire (as minis do) over the weekend. Its got a permenant misfire right through the rev range, and on removal of the plugs, No2 is WET! all the rest are fine. I have changed ign leads, changed plugs, checked mixture & ign timing, checked dizzy cap/rotor arm/condensor/points/coil. Done a compression test and all is fine! I cant help but think that my head gaskets gone and im getting water in the cylinder? Any suggestions people....?

Tracking adjustment
If you're the slightest bit unhappy about this, I would advise taking it to a tyre centre and get them to do it - it will only cost a few pounds (dollars).
However, it's very easy to do yourself. All you need to do is slacken the locknuts on the track-rod ends, so you can rotate the rods. These adjust each wheel independently, so you need to make sure that each rod is screwed in (or out) as near the same as the other as you can otherwise the rack won't be central when you're driving straight ahead. You can check this simply by counting the number of exposed threads on each rod end.
The wheels need to be very slightly toed out (1.58 mm according to my book) which means they are further apart at the front than at the back. You can make a tool to measure this by using two garden canes held together with rubber bands. At the end of each cane fasten a bit of wire bent into a Z-shape. Use this to measure the gap between the wheels, first at the front (measure between the rims, not the tyres) then at the back. All you're interested in is setting it up so they are the same, or slightly wider at the front. The actual toe out isn't critical, and you will probably want to 'fine-tune' it yourself on the road.
Make sure the car is sitting on level ground, steering straight ahead, and repeat the measurement several times (preferably moving the car forwards and backwards between each one) until you're happy with it.
Good luck!

1000cc Racing Mini for Short track oval racing
I have a 1000cc mini which i have raced in the junior class at Standlake arena this season for sale. Shes got a few dents and a few scratches but that all adds character aigh? lol. It abides by the rules of both the SEGTO and STAR rule books so can be raced all over the place in the Prod A class or Juniors and probably others depending on the track. Its been built with a solid detachable flip front which is certainly an head turner lol. Its got wooden skirts which go between the arches and a quick release steering wheel. Engine has been solid mounted and suspension is fully adjusable. Steering rack can be unbolted through the bulkhead and lifted up through the car making it alot easier to change if you break it. It has front disc brakes and rear drums, cable clutch and lots of other goodies. The car also comes with lots of spares such as steering arms, radiator fan, distributor cap, distributor, coil and many more. Near side bottom arm has been extended to give the wheel perfect camber for clockwise oval racing. The car is ready to race....and win! Engine is an A+ with a central Oil Pick-up with an Auto head on top. £1,000. Picked up from Chinnor, Oxfordshire. For any info ring 07753179896 and i should answer (Scott) Think this link should take you to an album of pics of just the mini: http://www.fototime.com/ftweb/bin/ft.dll/p...8-DF19A77DACAB} If that doesnt work then go here and search for the 67 Junior/Scott/Brockley/Jesus album: http://www.aly960.fototime.com

Tracking width when converting from drums to discs
Quick technical question:
Does changing from drum brakes to disc brakes increase the front wheel tracking distance? I can't afford to increase the offset of the wheels as the wheels only just fit without wheel arches as it is.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Track Rod End Question
Thank you for reading and responding.
I have a 1962 Super Deluxe that I have modified the suspension on to allow for 1 degree of negative camber.
My question is; can I use the standard track rod ends or should I invest in longer (5mm) track rod ends?

Wheel track info
I am after some official documentation (manual) confirming the front and rear track width for late model (1997-2000) cooper s and sportspack minis. I require this for the engineer, down here in OZ we have super tight rules and regs, cannot go 25mm total wider over standard track so need proof of cooper s or sportspackdimensions. Thanks in advance.
