The only recommended towing weights I can find on the net are for the 1989 Mini 30 LE, but that has a 998cc engine.
Its states the maximum towing weight (2-up) being 405kg, with tow hitch download 35-45kg (75-100lb) and the roof rack load 45kg (90lb).
I'll have to dig out the Mini manual for my 1990 Mainstream Cooper 1.3 to compare the figures, but I can't imagine there being much (if any?) difference, because the Mini 30 had the same type of braking system?
I got the brochure information from this source: -

thanks, max towing weight is just based on weight of the towing vercal. so 1275 might be few kg more due to taller block but nuthing much. im thinking of making a small caravan for fun from plywood. prob one of my crazy ideas, also wanna tow my boat. have a tow hock from a mini, but design is poor its very heavy might get my dad to weld up a lightweight one. no point in it being any strounger than say the subfraim. i know my friends dad towed a full size caravan

Came to mind!
Anyway you can buy tiny caravans suitable for Minis, but their damned expensive. Strangely their website isn't working at: -
