Indicator indicator
Can anyone tell me how to add a tick to my 1979 mini’s indicators?
The thing is I thought I could just install a 12v buzzer in parallel with the green light but the polarity of the light changes depending upon the direction indicated. Problem is the buzzer only works with the right polarity.
If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it. It might save me some time staring at the electrical diagrams.

two buzzers with diodes next to each running in obosit directions or if u use 4 diodes in the correct way u can rig it up with a single buzzer

like this i think should work

that was just as I had thought. Looks like I had better get the soldering iron out and go shopping for a buzzer that doesn't sound too ear splitting.
Thanks for the suggestion.

I know a faulty hazard warning light switch can prevent the direction indicators from working, because it overrides them.
But you say your indicators are lighting up, but staying on and not flashing? Is that still the case when the engine is on and your on the move too?
Try cleaning up all the indicator light earth's, but it's possible that the new flasher unit you have is faulty anyway?

Definitely sounds like you're hazard warning light switch is playing up. I'd say it's time to replace it.

i seemed to have fixed the problem, although it was wrse than i thougt!!!- in a sense anyways...none of my lights were working, the only lights i had were the main headlights. i had no reverse lights no braking lights or tail lights. However i checked the fuse and belived it to be the wrong one so i ahve changed it and it seems to have fixed the problem!!
BUT, my passeenger side front indicator still doesnt work, as well as my passenger side tail light. Am i under the righ impression that these are on the same wiring??
if anybody can help would eb muchly appreciated.

No, they'll be on completely different circuits. The most likely problem, assuming the bulbs are OK, is bad or broken connections - either in the light fitting itself (i.e. where the bulb contacts the little spring-loaded connectors), in the earth connection or in the live feed. You'll find a little multimeter is really helpful to track down these sorts of problems.

Just on the subject of indicators not working,
mine stopped flashing the other day. Now they just come on and stay on.
This is not a major issue, but rather random that it just started happening the other day.
Could it be the alternator in the fuse somewhere or where is the most likely source of this problem?!

If your indicators are coming on and staying on on both sides, and assuming your hazard flashers work normally, then it's most likely the flasher unit itself has packed up. This is quite normal, and thankfully the flasher unit is extremely cheap!

Wing indicator
I have brought a front wing indicator loom as th holder on the old one is knackered. The new one has two bullet connecters on the end but looking at the old one i can't see where there is a connection on it .It appears to be a continuous loom with no break for a connection It is a 1986 mayfair.
Any suggestions greatley appreaciated Sean

Hello Sean,
I'm not absolutely certain, but I think it should be an add on to the indicator part of the loom?
Anyway if the wiring colours are right then this might help: -
Earth is the Black wires Sidelights are Red/Red with Green Headlights are thick Blue with Red Main Beam thick Blue with White Passenger N/S indicators are Green/White Drivers O/S indicators are Green/Red
