Hydrolastic Displacers
Pete, I have a pair of hyrdrolastic dispalcers that came from a 1968 998cc mini. At the moment they are on a pattern rear subframe with the radius arms and brakes etc. I can let you have the lot for £100. Condition wise the displacers need new boots and a repaint but are solid, the subframe is similiar, brakes will need a rebuild. I am in Buckinghamshire but my parents are heading to south Devon tomorrow so if your interested it could be worth giving me a call tonight on 0779 8948175 as they could take stuff down with them I`ve also got a front subframe with displacers etc and a 998cc engine & gearbox all from the same mini 1968 mini if you or anyone else is interested

Hydrolastic or rubber?
Hi there, These are my first words on the Minispares forum. Since i started up the restoration of my 1976 850 mini, i also have to change the rear subframe. If i want to order one, i see that every manufacturer is giving the choice between dry or hydrolastic. Can anyone tell me what the difference is betwee those two? Stephan

Converting a hydrolastic Mini to dry
How easy is it to convert a hydro mini to dry?, over here in Oz nearly all pre 73 Minis are hydro, but back in Scotland all my Minis were dry. How simple is it to convert the wet to dry? Rookie question I know but just dont like a wet car!

Hydrolastic to Dry Swap - Classic Mini
Hello,
Can I fit a Dry suspension (rubber springs and Hi-Lo) into front and back Hydrolastic sub-frames ?
Is it a straight forward installation or is it some modifications to carry out on the sub-frames ?
Thanks in advance for any help/information provided.
Kind regards to All !
Bob

Me again...95 cooper, hydrolastic? or dy?
Pretty sure it's dry but need to be 100%, we need new rear radius arms so I'm looking up pricing. Can someone confirm this for me?
Cheers!

Hydrolastic pipes replacement
Hey
Is it possible to replace hydro pipes without removing front subframe? Anybody having any practical experience with this using original pipes?.
I know it is possible on the rear subframe, lowering it towards the cabine.

Hi Brian,
I used the copper replacement rather than nylon. I used the originals as a template but fitted them before putting the subframes back. There is very little room between the bulkhead and the subframe and although you may get the pipe through the hex connector is twice the width of the pipe so may not go in. There are also retaining clips behind the subframe that have to be manipulated. You should also have the 10mm felt pads between the bulkhead and subframe to kill the drumming vibration.
I think your best option will be to unbolt the exhaust at the rear and middle hangers and to drop the subframe beneath the front valance level so that it can be pushed forward slightly. This won't affect the steering but it will put load on the brake line between the master cylinder and brake switch t-piece so you might want to disconnect that along with the throttle and choke cables and earthing strap.
If you get stuck for reconditioning the hoses on your displacers I had mine done via the 1800 Owners club secretary. I can also verify that the hand held pumps available on ebay (converted grease pumps) work really well for refilling and maintaining the system if you haven't got access to a main dealer with the proper churchill pump.

just saw the other attempted posts about hydro - presume this was you Brian.
Tech data for ride heights on Hydro cars can be found here http://www.hydragas.co.uk/tech/ado15.html
Link to hydro pump here http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=hydrolastic+pump&_sacat=0&_from=R40
If you are having trouble getting the copper hydro pipes then try Somerford Mini. They made me a set and they fitted perfectly. They come coiled up so you have to shape them yourself. I used various metal paint tins to get the correct curves :)

1995 Cooper will be dry. Hydrolastic was dropped by BL (for the Mini anyway) back in July 1971.

suspension
will still be stable unless u try going round a tight corner at 50mph. u have to basicly choose between comftable ride or racy handling. a comftable ride car wont nessarily be dangerious unless ur pushing it really hard round bends. in ruff roads it may well be more stable as it will be less likly to go out of control after hiting a pot hole. hydrolastic (used from around 64-70 on minis instead of dry rubber donuts. for example had a soft floaty ride but handling wasnt the best so alot of people converted them to dry suspenshion. however for rallying hydrolastic was quite good as the car would glide over pot holes (like an old citron).
