You should be able to pick up a suitable plug for the printed circuit from a wrecker. Just make sure it has a few inches of wiring still attached. It's not too difficult to follow the layout of the printed circuit to see how to connect it up to your existing loom. Just be sure to note which lights and gauges your loom connects to on your old gauge cluster. When you have the correct wires joined, solder the joins and use shrink-wrap insulation to ensure you don't get any shorting! The only catch is that your new cluster will probably not have an oil pressure gauge. You have the option of fitting a sender to feed the oil warning light, or fitting your old gauge somewhere in your new dash, or using a 'T' to feed both gauge and warning light.
Good luck!

Centre Binnacle
Hi everyone!
I recently purchased a mini 1000 with my favorite instrument installed (the centre binnacle) and there is no backing. I have seen these centre clocks installed before and i was wondering if anyone knows what the backing behind and around the binnacle and roughly what the price should be as i need this to practically complete my project!
Sorry for the lack of details...my brain has decided to go on it hols today!
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me!

Central round to oval binnacle/speedo conversion - 1981 City
Looking for advice on adding gauges to central speedo in my 1981 Mini City. Recently completed bodywork overhaul making this a 1981 Mini and losing any external signs of "City" finishings. Now moving onto interior mods starting with dash and hoping to create central oval binnacle with oil pressure and engine temp gauges.
Is this feasible/possible for completion at home by myself with basic mechanical knowledge? Im full of enthusiasm for the task and will be resourceful if i have a problem but don't want to start a job that could go beyond me.
Also considering further gauges ( tacho, ammeter voltmeter or even a clock! ) but if I keep open shelf dash that I presently have where and how do these additional gauges fix to?
Many thanks if anybody can advise.

centre binnacle
Should be easy enough to make a centre binnacle, but you can buy one cheap enough from ebay. Even if you don't use it, it would make a decent template. Tacho can be mounted with a bracket on the steering column, other gauges, dunno. Have you considered a centre consul, ok for stuff you don't need to look at while driving.

Central round to oval binnacle/speedo conversion
I have a spare oval binnacle - the black plastic outer part with chrome surround and the metal panel that sits behind - in my garage if you're interested. I think there's an oil gauge in it as well.
The oval binnacle only takes the large speedo in the middle, and a smaller gauge on each side - no room for anything else.

Binnacle lights
Hi.... I've taken the 3 dial binnacle (Nippon seiki) out of my 90 cooper to find that a bulb is missing from the back. They are these little push and twist type bulbs with Toshiba v2 on the back. Is ther any place you can buy these? LED replacement may be good if there is such a thing? The printed circuit is also broken however I've fixed that with some tin foil!!! Are these available on their own? Thanks in advance, Tom

Hi,
I think you need the "GLB2132" bulb. It is a pysh fit into the twist/lock carrier.
Bulbs are 1.06 (inc vat) from Minispare or 76p (inc vat) from Somerford http://www.somerfordmini.co.uk/eshop/index.php?main_page=page&id=85
but the postage would be overly expensive for this so have a look on ebay or go to nearest Halfwits or local motor factor. If the twist/lock carrier is broken or missing then you'll need to talk to a breakers yard but they may want to sell you the whole assembly. (drop Somerford an email as they may have a spare carrier only)
Nice touch with the fil on the pcb. I had similar with the ignition black box on my '96 cooper. It was not completely sealed and moisture corroded the pcb. I followed where the pcb should have gone and linked the ends out with wire - saved £100 that way :)

central binnacle
hello everyone
I am currently restoring a 1985 mini mayfair which has the two clock binnacle in front of driver I am intending to change this to a central 3 clock binnacle (oval type) was wondering will the top padded dash rail foul the new binnacle and will I have to remove it altogether the reason I ask this is because all the photos I have seen of minis with this conversion have no upper dash rails
regards
andrew

Question about lens cover for indicator
Is this just a loose bulb dangling through a hole in the binnacle? It sounds to me like it's just the indicator light has dropped out of its housing.

Center speedo to 3 clocks on the side?
Do any of you mini Gurus out there know how easy it is to convert from a centre speedo to a 3 clock binnacle (late cooper type). I need a new wiring loom as is, so is the easiest way to get the loom for a min with the 3 clock side binnacle? The car was an 84 city, with a large centre speedo. Im guessing the easiest way is the new loom for a later type min, then maybe a longer speedo cable? I really preferred the layout of the 1275 GT my dad used to have as I always found the large centre speedo a bit ugly. Sorry if the ugly statement offended anyone (mereley my opinion). Its gonna have to be something else for the Christmas list!

hmmm...
On my 93 Sprite, there are two units that seem to work in unison. One is underneath and behind the instument binnacle. If you pull the fabric curtain away from the side of the plastic binnacle, you should be able to see it (on the right side) attached to the bottom part of the cluster framework. If you have a dash panel installed, you can see it from underneath. It is near the bulkhead. The second one should be under the bonnet between the drivers side inner wing and the brake booster frame where it attaches to the bulkhead (in that area above the subframe bolt). It may be attached to this booster frame. Ive had problems with both. I had the setup under the bonnet rewired, and it has been working properly for the past six weeks or so. If you can find both units (I believe yours and mine are wired the same), replace BOTH of them. Check them regularly when running the car. If either seems to be getting hot, you have a wiring issue like mine. You can keep replacing the unit, but that will get old eventually. I was getting 3-4 weeks of daily driving between replacements before the rewire. Good luck, and I hope that helps...

mini clocks,help pls
Hi, 3 clocks is correct for that period. Just checked the "30th anniversary" magazine and "30 Mini Years" book. 88/89 cars had the 3 dial pack set into a plastic binnacle.

Mini Dash Conversion
I have a 1981 Mini City with a centre binnacle dash, I am looking to fit a newer style full dash so I can have better gauge information (tacho, oil pressure, oil temp etc). I just want to know what is required to fit one because I am sure its not straight foward. Thanks in advance!!

re:
are you talking about the dash boards that go either side of the binnacle to cover the gap between the dash rails? If so then you can get these from most good suppliers, im pretty sure i bought my last set from minispares...cost bout £25-30 from memory. alternatively newton commercial will perhaps have a larger selection

Temp gauge wiring
That sounds like the starter solenoid with the two large terminals; although i note yours is a 1987 model which should have a pre engaged starter with solenoid built in. (Perhaps you have an earlier engine?). The voltage regulator is at the back of the instrument binnacle and is a bit smaller.
