Radius arm 1 bearing or 2 bearings?
I removed my rear radius arm to exchange the bearing and found 2 needle bearings (one on each side). I thought that one side had needle bearing and other side had a brass bushing.
Has anyone seen radius arms with 2 bearings? Is this special radius arm? See pictures for details.

Never heard of this before. it might be a 'competition special' or it might just be a local modification.
Are the two bearings the same?

changing front wheel bearing on drum mini
Hi, i am trying to change the wheel bearings on my 1980 mini 1000. The front hub has what looks like a spacer in front of the innner race of the bearing. I have bought a new bearing which didnt come with a spacer. Do i need to replace the spacer if there arent any marks on it and can i only remove whats left of the inner race with a bearing puller?
Thanks

Have a look at the diagram on Somerford Mini's website here:

You should be able to re-use the spacer that you have already.
You can tap the remains of the bearing out using a long thin chisel or screwdriver. You may need to use a blowtorch to heat up the housing if it's really stuck.

Paul, check the new bearings. Some of the kits these days have an inner race that is wider than the original so that when placed facing each other they do away with the need for the spacer. However, if your inner races are the same size as the originals then yes you can reuse the old one.
The old outer race will drift out with a small metal bar and a hammer. TIP: before you put it all back together get a piece of emery cloth and clean up the face of the housing and then run it around the chamfered lip to clean off any rough spots caused by slippage of the drift or metal swarf. clean it with petrol and grease it beofre putting the new bearing in. It will make life a little easier for you.

Help front wheel bearing
Can anyone please tell me how to replace a front wheel bearing first time doing it on my 95 mini Japanese spec. Thank you need to know the order the bearings go in the for some reason there's a spacer when I took it apart but the new kit did not bring a spacer.

If you haven't got a Haynes manual, the diagrams on Somerford Mini's website are excellent. Here's the one you need to refer to:
I wouldn't expect the spacer to be included in the bearing kit, they don't wear out.

Rear bearing rubbing dust cover
We have a 1977 mini and I have just replaced both rear wheel bearings sets. The replacement bearings are the same part number but have a thicker seal. After a day of driving we heard a loud rubbing noise, upon investigation we found that the seal had been rubbing on the drum causing the bearing to become contaminated with swarf and the hub assemblies loose. my fix was to dis-mantle the hubs, clean the bearings and re-grease them and fit them with the original thinner seal.
Driving it this morning the same noise was heard again from the same side (it;s only happening on the left hand side), again the original seal has worn away. My thoughts are that the bearing housings are thinner than the original ones causes the seal to tighten against the drum vs torquing up against the stub shaft.
Has anyone else encountered the same problem and if so what is the possible fix?

When you say the seal has been rubbing against the "drum" do you really mean the brake backplate? This would imply that the seal is sitting proud of the hub assembly, when it should be flush with the end. And if you put the original seals in and still had problems, I would suggest something else is wrong. Did you replace the spacer between the bearings or keep the old one?

'72 Front drum wheel bearings replaced but wheels still have way to much space
Hi there,
I own a '72 mini with original front drum brakes. Because a bearing made to much "noise" for M.O.T. it needed to be replaced. I decided to replace them all front & back. but now getting problems with the front. The bearings that came out were the SKF BA2B 417387 (with build in spacer). I replaced those with part number GHK1018. (The code on the box is VKBA 727V)
Now both wheels on the front have movement, with the center nut tightened above normal. i scratched my head and the only thing i could think of was a bad batch of bearings, so i replaced one side with a different brand but also ghk1018 of course. But same problem !
when you tilt the wheel you can see movement between in inner ring and the outer ring of the bearing. to visualize, like the bearing balls are way to small. I really don't know what to do... anyone a clue? help is much appreciated !
