Came across this web site on the MM site from threads being posted by the woman restoring a Mini. It would appear she just put it on its side. I have heard some using and resting the body on an old bed mattress. Just be sure you do not start it on fire while welding. I would do one side at a time. You may want to put some bracing in also. I hopes this site helps. http://www.engr.colostate.edu/~id/restoration.html Otherwise, I am about (in the next couple of months) to do the same think on a 61 Morris Mini, replacing the floor. I am in the process of building a rotisserie. Good Luck

I have done it on my Mini 73, cause in Ecuador the climatic situation is perfect for the rust. so i have it changed one year ago and done the work one side at time, and also after finishing the work, to seal it inmediatly specially the welding, to prevent the rust and start over work. Now finally i get the original ones.

Floor Problem
Hello again, My Mini failed the MOT due to the floor panels on both the driver and passenger side along with a dodgy rusted sill on the driver side. im not sure if its easier/cheaper to get these welded (if not compleatly rusted) or just to get new floor pans and get them put in. Has anyone had this done/ know how much it would cost. Even worst case estimates will be helpful. Cheers

If the floors not too bad you could get it patched very cheaply. With the sill I would be inclined to replace it completely - that way you know youre safe for a few years. The sill panel costs about £20, fitting it shouldnt cost more than 30 or 40. Or invest that money in a welder and do it yourself!

Thanks for that Tim, The floor doesnt look to bad but im not sure if its in a dodgy area or not. I thought about getting a welder myself but i dont really have the know how to do something like that. At least ill know its done properly if i go to a garage. Cheers

Floor - no good
Please do NOT bolt it to the floor as Neil suggests. The belt will rise in a vertical angle and the over your shoulders. This will crush your back (spine?) in case of a frontal accident, especially when using lowback seats. At least here in Germany, you would never pass scrutineering in any motorsport event with such an installation. For good reason! To get a better (still not perfect) angle use the lapbelt anchors in the rear seatpan. The best mounting points (without rollcage) still are the original seatbelt anchors in the rear parcel shelf. Yes, it looks a bit odd as per Neil because they are not inline with the seats but, will not force you towards the door when using correct highback seats where the belt runs through the headrest. The best mounting point will be a horizontal bar between the rear legs of a rollcage. Diddi

Floor panels
I bought my Mini in september, he failed the inspection for the same problem but just in the left side (driver side). I bought a complete and original repairing panel in one mini specialist store I spend around 20euros on the panel and around 35euros on the aplication. On minispares store you have this panels. Diogo

mini pickup load floor
I am about to chop the load floor out of my pickup and appears to be in very good condition if any one would be interested in it email me an offer at glyn.law@ntlworld.com and I will do by best to drill all the spot welds out and get it out in one piece failing that its the grinders job.

Yeh the guy i use for bodyworks is spot on. Hes done alot of work on minis before. Looks like its going to be a bit of a project. Had to get the front end replaced and scuttle panel anyway. Need some new door skins and the rest i mentioned before. Plus a few little spots of rust in the usual places. Youd think id just get rid of it wouldnt you.

Sills Vs Floor
Sorry to hear your in the same position as myself. Im removing the engine in order to gain full access to the engine bay which is in need of tidying. Also with the engine out the car will be a whole lot easier to get on its side to get better access to the bottom. Still not sure which is best to replace first though the sills or floors?

Floor pan replacing?
My 1979 mini has a rust hole in the front floor pan towards the bulkhead end. Is it okay to repair small holes (1.5 inch round) in floor pans with filler or is it advisable to replace the whole 1/4 pan that side.
If it is to replace the pan does anyone know of any websites that might show a step by step of how to replace a floor pan.
Cheers

DONT use filler..!....you will fail your MOT. either replace the whole panel or patch the hole with a plate if it's not too big ( or get someone else to do it for you )
Whole replacment panels are available from this site...

Cheers for that, I will weld a small plate over the offending hole.

I'd like to echo Lefthooker's query: Can anyone direct me to a website instructing me how to replace Mini's floor (and body) panels?

Front subframe to floor mountings.
hello,
have fitted poly mountings st the front subframe to floor part of the car and there is constant squeek now. left it for a month to see if they needed bedding in but its getting on ma nervs now. any suggestions on how to stop it?
im sure the bolts are tight enough. not using the original two bolt bracket type thing as they didnt come through far enough to bolt mounting to floor well.
so might it be that two single bolts will move independant and allow the mounting to swueek off the floor pan?
please reply if you have fitted these before.
cheers,
David
