second hand 80's 1275 metro ones or 1275 90's mini are a good source. if you want new alton or 123 ignition are a good souce. if u buy second hand one will need advance modifying to work well.

New 45D/59D Cap not fitting Distributor
Hello Everyone!,
I have been racking my brain over the last few days while tuning up the mini and taking care of general maintenance for coming spring. The issue I am having is I purchased 2 distributor caps from our host and not a single one fits my distributor. It appears to be a hair to small and this is the first time I have ran into this issue. I am curious how I am going to find a cap that will work or if someone can share some knowledge. Maybe there are inferior products in circulation? Thanks in advance!
Dizzy info: Aldon 45D/59D 100AYPV A+ Vac Advance. Dated July 2015.

Is the issue that the Aldon distributor is not the same size as the Lucas original?

Please see below response from ALDON:
HI JOHN
YES YOU ARE QUITE RIGHT ABOUT THE SIZES WE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.
IF THE CAP IS TOO SMALL WE NOW MACHINE OR DE - BURR THEM TO FIT.
WE HAVE VARIOUS SIZES IF YOU CAN MEASURE THE OUTER DIAMETER WE WILL SEE WHAT WE CAN DO

Distributor
I think the 45D and 59D overlapped for a while in the 80s, so anything's possible. What year is your car?

LUMENITION FOR 45D DIST ON
I wouldn't pay for the Lumenition system when products like this are available
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Powerspark-45D-ELECTRONIC-IGNITION-KIT-for-Lucas-43D-45D-59D-Distributors-/360508264952?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3AMini&hash=item53eff791f8
I fitted the version for the Delco D202 to my Triumph and now I don't have to worry about cr*ppy condenser quality. Will be converting the Mini Mk2 soon as well as the Moggy Minor when I get around to refitting the engine.

Elec Ignition Fitting!!
Hi, Im trying to fit electronic ignition on a 59D type dizzy but im having problems!. Ive bought the correct kit from minispares. It is the ignitor make. The problem i have is that there are three holes in the unit, one an elongated hole which a pin fits through.fine. The other is a hole where the larger screw fits. again fine. But there is a smaller hole which is threaded for the earth strap to be screwed to. Not fine.- as when the unit is in the correct position a locating pin on the base plate fills this small hole so nothing can be screwed into it. I cant be the only one who has had this problem,, is there an easy answer , im a been stupid? Othere that making a new hole i cant see the answer!! Thanks in advance

Distributor and coil
The part in the picture is the vacuum advance unit, not the distributor. The distributor should have the model number stamped somewhere on it, but you will probably have to remove it from the engine to find it. It ought to be either a 45D or 59D for your car

Have a look at this page. It explains that the 59D has a felt pad to clean the cam, whereas the 45D doesn't.
I can vouch for the Powerspark electronic ignition - I have one on my Mini and one on my Jaguar. They fit in place of the points and condenser and are far more reliable.

What coil for electronic ignition ?
Hi everyone !
I've recently replaced my set of points and condensor with a ignition ignitor 59D blue points pack. I can start the engine but it does not work normally.
I was wondering if I need a special coil (I have a simple coil with ballast resistor).
My mini is a 1988 jet black with 998cc engine.
Thank you.
