Connecting Mk1 Cooper S rear loom
All
Please note I have searched forums and You tube etc for a week on this but am stuck.
I have read and watched and read various links found, here and elsewhere
If my searches are not as good as they should be I apologise.
I recently purchased a mk 1 cooper complete loom (2 parts front and rear) for a rebuild on a bare LHD drive shell to RHD which was bought without any wiring in it.
I have laid out the rear loom so that all connections are in the boot where necessary and then routed the loom through the passenger (Left side) of the shell (inner roof rail) leaving the courtesy light wires as they lie, and routed the end of the loom through the bulkhead next to the wiper motor where it rests.
The 7 bullet connections from the rear loom (4 smaller wires being indicators, brake light, fuel level) and 3 larger wires ( being side lights, fuel pump and courtesy light?) finish here.
For completeness I have laid out the front loom in the engine bay in the following way.
It is an upgrade alternator loom, and for those able to assist, it rests across and under the front valance (leaving tails for sidelights through wings) connections for alternator, starter/solenoid, distributor etc as they appear in the loom.
It continues to attach to horn, turns along drivers side inner wing for flasher unit, brake switch, through the bulkhead strengthener to fusebox mounted on the inner wing near bulkhead, turns again to leave the wires to connect to the gauges in the binnacle.
At present the fusebox has 5 fused connections (2 purple, 3 green) form the loom and the feeds (3 white and one brown).
The remaining loom then deals with indicator stalk, switch panel pass through below the binnacle to indicator stalk, and switch panel (ignition/starter, wiper, lights) and a connection for a sub loom for the floor dip switch.
I have carefully look at these remaining looms and each of the connections seem to be 'pre-assigned' from the wiring diagram for their various functions so leave no 'spare' bullet connections.
My question is this.
How do the 7 bullet connections of the rear loom as they appear at the 'wiper motor' area connect to the front loom?
Looking at the wiring diagram the purple wire appears as if it might be a 6th connection at the fused side of the fusebox?
However it finishes at the wrong side of the car.
Have I fitted the rear loom to the wrong side? All previous research says not but happy to be corrected.
If it is moved to the drivers side, the 6 remaining bullet connections still have no apparent way of connecting to the front loom.
I am obviously missing something completely obvious. But in fairness this is my first mini but not my first rodeo.
Hopefully I have given enough information to make clear the routing
All is going well save for the way to connect the rear loom (passenger side of engine bay next to wiper motor.
