Spluttering / Dying
Hi all,
I'm hoping someone may be able to help me out - I apologise in advance for my lack of knowledge of the workings / parts of an engine etc...
I've recently purchased a Mini Cooper Monte Carlo, but it's got a slight problem - 3/10 times it struggles to start, then splutters for a good 2 minutes whilst I'm driving it (you don't know it's going to splutter until setting off).
It's happened 3 times now - twice I've managed to "drive out of it" and then it's fine. The 3rd time this morning, I drove a good 5 mins down the road, with it constantly spluttering. The car is currently at a local garage having a once over, but they said they might have to refer me to a specialist.
After the first time it happened, I changed back to the standard air filter / box, as it had a K&N on. I rev'ed the engine to check everything looked ok with the intake manifold, and the injector, and it looked fine - spraying consistently etc. However, when I had the air box off the other day, the injector wasn't spraying when being rev'ed, but then it managed to splutter a bit of fuel and the engine started for a couple of seconds, then died again.
Also, not sure if it's related, there's been a couple of times where I've slowed down for a roundabout, and the engine's cut off completely - not stuttering, just dies. First time was after a 30 min drive at 70mph, second time was just a ~45mph drive in the country.
I've recently done an oil change and spark plug clean / gap adjustment, but still hasn't helped at all.
Any ideas would be welcome! Currently bidding on a Haynes manual, but in the meantime please explain as simple as possible!
Cheers all!
